Opinion - Local Issue

College students who have gone through the process of relocating to live on campus can attest that it can be quite daunting and intimidating, especially if it's your first time attending a university. However, it provides the opportunity to be able to settle into your new environment, as well as introducing yourself to the people and instructors you will be interacting with.

In a college setting, it is really great to have a secure, comfortable place to go and unwind, to be able to feel at ease, as if in one's own home- an issue which many of us college students have encountered when transitioning to college life.

I'm pleased to share that the Rider Lounge at SAU (Southern Arkansas University) has been revealed. My first view of the lounge was when I was heading to the Bruce Center for Chick fil a. While making my way to the main entrance, I spotted the brightly lit neon sign which read 'Rider Lounge' through the glass window, and saw the pool tables and chairs within. It looked comfortable and inviting, so I decided I would have to pay the place a visit soon.

The Rider Lounge is now available to SAU's students on the bottom floor of the Bruce Center, having opened its doors on October 18 for them to destress and socialize.

In response to the Student Government Association's request, the University made the concept a summer project in order to give students another gathering area on campus to meet up.

Rider Lounge offers a variety of activities, such as ping pong, foosball, shuffleboard, air hockey, and billiards. Moreover, it features TouchTunes, a jukebox system enabling students to play music of their choice. There is a cozy seating arrangement for the students to relax and tables for them to savor the meals available on campus.

SAU is devoted to student excellence, while ensuring its students feel welcomed and secure on campus.

“Our goal was to create a space that not only fosters academic success but also encourages social and community interaction,” said Dr. Donna Allen, vice president for Student Affairs. “The Rider Lounge embodies our commitment to providing an enriched campus experience for our students.”

The Rider Lounge will be available on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. over the weekend.
