Campus Crime

On Monday, the police force of Loyola University sounded an alarm concerning an armed robbery close to its Lake Shore Campus in Rogers Park.

At 3:40 a.m. on Sunday morning, Loyola police Chief and Director of Campus Safety Thomas K. Murray issued an alert to students, informing them that three students were witnessed on the sidewalk outside Marquette Hall student residence, and that a gray four-door sedan had pulled up to the street nearby.

Four individuals left the vehicle and one of them brandished a weapon, ordering the pupils to give them their possessions such as cell phones and wallets. Subsequently, the thieves re-entered the automobile and drove off.

Over the course of three consecutive weekends, DePaul University students in Lincoln Park have been the victims of a series of armed robberies.

Last Saturday, a person in the vicinity of DePaul was struck on the head with a firearm and had to receive medical attention. Moreover, the same weekend, the perpetrators punched and sprayed pepper on the students they were stealing from. Despite the university officials being unavailable for comment, CBS 2 discovered that six public safety warnings related to robberies had been released since June.

On Sunday, the university disseminated a letter about the robberies and provided safety resources such as the safety escort service and assured that DePaul will enhance its public safety presence on both campuses with extra security officers.
